It is a long frieze of little figures dancing and gesturing, a komos that encircles the liquid contents of the vase. The only static figure is the seated Dionysus, who is holding a rhyton. In front of him, Hermes is presenting the god Hephaistos, who is riding on a mule. On both sides of Dionysus, maenads dance with satyrs, who carry branches or drinking cups.
